A cluster ring with a story. This stunning sapphire is not original to the ring see here. Whilst re-tipping the claws during restoration we managed to damage the sapphire beyond repair. It just so happened that earlier in the year we had acquired a parcel of loose sapphires of which one fitted perfectly. The replacement sapphire is not new by any stretch of the imagination despite possibly having never been set in an item of jewellery before. The silver linings to this story is that the replacement sapphire is a far superior stone than the original. Exhibiting deep blues that seem to come from the very depths of the stone. The ring itself is vintage to 1974 and crafted in 18ct yellow gold throughout, hallmarked at the London assay office.
Metal: 18ct yellow gold.
Marks: Hallmarked HC Ltd London 1974.
Measurements: The head measures 14mm x 12mm and rises 6.2mm from the finger. Knife edge shoulders widening to 2.7mm D shape sank.
Stones: Central natural sapphire accompanied by an independent sapphire report produced by The Gem & Pearl Laboratory of Kirby Street London. Natural sapphire weighing 1.97ct of transparent blue colour. As with most sapphires, heat treatment was observed. Brilliant cut diamonds each approximately 0.04ct totalling approximately 0.48ct. Colour G/H. Clarity Si. There is one diamond which has a large inclusion at the cullet, the very bottom of the stone. This is the odd one of the bunch but it seems original to the ring.
