A superb 1960s opal and diamond cluster ring. This particular ring is a large show-off piece with a significant proportioned head. The opal is the star of the show which we have calculated as being approximately just over 4ct. However it looks far larger thanks to being a fairly thin piece of opal. Surprisingly despite its thickness the opal has a wonderful depth of colour with good flashes of reds, blues and greens evenly spread out across the stone. This is a highly desirable property of opals.
Metal: 18ct gold and platinum settings.
Marks: Unmarked. Tests indicate 18ct gold with the upper part of the pierced gallery being platinum.
Stones: 4.03ct Cabochon-cut opal with colours of reds, greens & blues. The opal is slightly transparent in some lights but totally opaque in others. Different environments give a totally different looking stone. This is the magic of opals.
Twenty brilliant-cut diamonds each approximately 0.04ct giving a total carat weight of 0.80ct. Colour G/H. Clarity VS.
Measurements: The head of the ring measures 23mm x 17.8mm wide and stands 11.6mm proud of the finger. The shank measures 2.5mm wide.
Weight: 9.8 grams.
Finger size: UK - Q 1/2, US - 8 1/2 (roughly). This ring can easily be sized up or down a few sizes upon request.
Condition: Excellent.
