A superb early 20th Century, possibly late 19th, gemstone necklace featuring natural ruby, aquamarine, emerald and pearls all crafted in 14kt gold. This highly colourful necklace consists of individually articulated droppers, every one set with a pearl. The centre most aspect of this necklace features a natural oval facetted ruby of superb deep red colour. The sort of colour that would be called pigeon blood red. Coming away from the centre we then find alternating gemstones of aquamarine, emerald and then matching deep red rubies. These were often made in the Far East, often Ceylon where these gemstones are likely to have originated. They are typical of the stones found in jewellery commensurate with the age of this piece having come from what we call the Ceylon gem gravels.
Metal: Tests indicate 14ct gold. The snap is testing as 9ct gold.
Marks: Unmarked.
Measurements: Total length 16 inches. The longest dropper measures approximately 17mm with each dropper ever so slightly graduating down in size to the outer droppers that measure approximately 11.5mm.
Stones: Gemstones are all weighed by measurement.
Six pale aquamarines totalling approximately 1.22ct.
Five deep red rubies totalling approximately 1.42ct. The centre most gemstone in the necklace is a ruby making up approximately 0.40ct of that 1.42ct total.
Four light green and clean emerald totalling approximately 0.77ct. The emerald as the odd one out in shape owing to being a sort of square cut rather than oval facetted.
